D:
Deirdre, after people read your book, what is it that they say has changed in
their lives?
If
the psoriasis has changed, it changes everything. That can change every
dimension of their life because if they're physically disable or if they are
hiding themselves. If they can't show themselves that means they can't be
themselves. So it may be the first time they literally able to be themselves
completely.
And
for the first time for a lot of people it gives them a sense of control over
their disease. Psoriasis is associated with flare-ups and with the flare-ups
comes a sense of panic because you're out of control.
And
now there are more drugs available and I'm personally grateful that there are
more prescription medications available because that gives people more options.
But these newer drugs that have come out, as I mentioned, Raptiva,
the FDA has announced that associated with
lethal brain infections and it's just been pulled off the market.
So
the nice thing about diet is it's the only option that has absolutely no
negative side effects. Everything associated with it is a positive side effect.
If they have weight to lose, it not only gives them control over their
psoriasis but control over their weight.
And
when you do those things especially in the context of psoriasis it means you're
reducing your risk for heart disease. You're reducing your risk for diabetes.
And that also means you have more money in your own pocket.
